What is outplacement 2.0?

Like many people in traditional large organizations since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis and now again during ‘The Great Layoff’, prior to me leaving ABN Amro at the end of 2011, I was required to go through a traditional outplacement program in ‘preparation for the labourmarket’ as corporate HR saw it.

It was actually a waste of valuable time and money for ABN Amro, but also for me personally. Why? Because even then the chance for someone like me (50plus)  to find a new similar job in a large organisation inside and outside financial services with a comparable salary was practically nil.

Traditional outplacement is a waste of time, especially now if you are 50plus.

And that is even more the case since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis in my home country The Netherlands and in many other countries in Europe and the rest of the world. and on top of that, just like many people having being doing in The Great Resignation, I wanted to quit my job and live a more healthy life as independent entrepreneur, working online and learning online anyplace & anytime. 

I did not want to work in a large bureaucratic organisation anymore. I had already made that decison much earlier.

Since the year 2001, I had been working on what I had called my online plan-b, my personal future-proofing right-skillingplan to be able to leave the corporate world and become an independent business owner with a new work-life balance.

And that really helped me, including since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis. I call that approach “Outplacement 2.0”.

What is outplacement 2.0?
